University of Basrah Hosts Seminar on the Dangers of Drugs and Their Impact on Societal Security
The Educational Guidance Unit at the College of Administration and Economics, in collaboration with the Development Center at the University of Basrah, organized an awareness seminar titled "Drugs and Their Impact on Societal Security and Values."
The seminar aimed to educate students and young people about the dangers of drugs and their destructive effects on the mind and psyche. It also sought to foster a culture of prevention within the university campus, with the goal of building a conscious generation, resilient against such destructive phenomena.
The seminar—presented by Dr. Ban Yassin Makki, along with faculty members Israa Khairi Abed and Asia Ali Hadi—highlighted the intellectual, economic, and social consequences of drug abuse, illustrating how it contributes to the disintegration of families and the collapse of societal values and moral systems.
The seminar recommended intensifying collaborative efforts between state institutions and civil society to curb the spread of this scourge. It further emphasized the need to strengthen educational guidance programs within colleges, enhance the role of families in supervising and mentoring their children, and launch comprehensive media and educational campaigns to shed light on the legal penalties and health-related harms associated with drug use.
