MASTER THESIS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF BASRAH EXAMINES ECONOMIC ANALYSIS OF RENEWABLE ENERGY’S IMPACT
A master’s thesis at the College of Administration and Economics, University of Basrah, examined the economic analysis of renewable energy's impact on oil markets, its repercussions for the Iraqi economy during the 2004–2024 period, and its future implications.
The thesis, presented by student Alia Mansour Abdullah, aimed to elucidate the impact of renewable energy on oil markets—analyzing it from an economic perspective—and to assess its repercussions and future effects on the Iraqi economy.
The thesis covered the evolution of renewable energy sources and their relationship with oil markets, analyzed their economic impact and implications for the Iraqi economy, and explored future trends in renewable energy and their potential influence on oil markets and the Iraqi economy.
The thesis concluded that regarding the impact of renewable energy development on oil markets, price is the key factor: as oil prices rise, the costs of renewable energy sources decrease. However, the future impact on markets appears to be slow or limited, with a negligible effect on the Iraqi economy—with the exception of a few projects currently under implementation.
The thesis recommended adopting appropriate measures and policies to encourage continued, large-scale investment in renewable energy sources in Iraq, hedging against future oil shocks by diversifying the economic base, and keeping pace with international experiences.
